Ousted Thai Prime Minister Thaksin banned from politics

Kuala Lumpur, May 30 (PTI) A top Thailand court today dissolved ousted Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra's political party and barred him and more than 100 of its executives from politics for five years over electoral fraud.

The Constitutional Tribunal held that billionaire Thaksin, who was booted out of office by the military last year, had used parliamentary elections to achieve totalitarian power.

It held his Thai Rak Thai (Thai loves Thai) party guilty for funding small parties to contest against it in last April's polls to get around rules requiring a minimum voter turnout.
