Jun. 1--On the one hand, Bobby Cox treats his players with a tremendous amount of patience. On the other hand, he treats umpires--especially plate umpires--with an almost historic level of impatience.
There's a lot to be said for this double standard.
It has helped Cox to become the gold standard for major-league managers, not just in this era but in any era.
