The train route that gave Sunset Magazine its name is slowly reclaiming some of its early glory
EAST OF EL PASO around 7:30 P.M., the engineer opens up the twin diesel locomotives and the Sunset Limited picks up speed, hurtling south and east over steel rails at close to 70 miles per hour. I'm not exactly certain where we are. The detailed route guide I was handed as I boarded the train in Los Angeles at 10:15 last night is nearly useless; we haven't been running on schedule since we left Phoenix this morning a half-hour late.
