Eli and Beowulf loved the attention they earned Sunday from visitors to Garfield Farm Museum in LaFox, west of Geneva.
Visitors petted the jet black, 1,600-pound Friesian horses, admiring their long manes, muscular frames and docile temperaments.
"They're loving this today," said the pair's owner, Jan Jenkins of Elburn.
In medieval times, Friesians were bred as the mounts for armored knights. Later they were used to pull carriages. Today, they are considered rare.
"It's like owning Black Beauty," Jenkins said.
