Jun. 2--DECATUR -- Tim Shelley was born decades after Mahalia Jackson was belting out those rich sounds of gospel heard around the country.
And even though Shelley may like the more contemporary sounds of today, he still falls back on those gospel songs made famous by Jackson and others.
Names like Clara Ward, the Soul Stirrers and Blind Willie Johnson go back seven decades; however, their names don't ring a bell to most young people today.
But to Shelley, 18, who is a choir director at his church, Love Fellowship, their contributions are impressive.
