As customers milled about the tiny, 1,200-square-foot store stacked floor to ceiling with pre-owned compact discs, DVDs and video games on Friday afternoon, a casual observer may have been surprised to learn that CD Exchange, 521 State St., would soon be closed for good.
According to owner Lance Roesler, however, the store will end its run on State Street when its lease runs out on June 15. Roesler, who also operates Preplayed stores on the east and west sides of Madison, said rising rent and falling revenues contributed to the downtown store's early closure.
