Jun. 3--CLEVELAND -- The Shot was buried Saturday night.
In a New Year's Eve-style setting, the Cavaliers took care of their 1989 curse, winning the Eastern Conference title and setting the stage for an NBA championship series against the San Antonio Spurs.
The 98-82 win over the Detroit Pistons marked the first time in more than 40 years that a Cleveland team won a sports title of any sort on their turf. After years of disappointments, Cleveland fans were ready. More than 21,000 witnessed the win in Quicken Loans Arena, and another 10,000 watched on TV in the Gateway Plaza.
