MIX AND MATCH
Stella's painting is a series of concentric boxes--but no single box stays the same color. Ask students: Do the color changes make it harder or easier to follow the stripes? How do the different colors affect the shapes within the painting?
SHAPE UP
Later in his career, Stella used canvases shaped like circles, hearts, and even letters of the alphabet. Ask students how this painting would look as a triangle or a circle. Could the painting be flower-shaped, or rainbow-shaped? Why or why not?
