Jun. 4--With a waiting list of more than 300 children, Buffalo's Tapestry Charter School -- unlike many others -- doesn't have to scramble to meet its enrollment targets.

Instead, it attracts students through high test scores, sterling reports from the state and a strong sense of community.

"We do no marketing," said Joy Pepper, school director. "We no longer have to go out in the community to entice people to come here. It's completely word of mouth."

Now Tapestry is trying to bring its facilities up to the level of its academic program.
