WASHINGTON, Feb. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- The following is a statement by MCI on Ameritech's number portability and network interconnection proposals:
"MCI has long-supported effective network `unbundling' and true local number portability as necessary conditions for local telephone competition. Ameritech's interim number portability plan does not achieve the objective of allowing consumers and businesses to own their own local telephone numbers.
