Has anyone ever given you "that look" after you have done something wrong? Maybe you made a mistake and your mother (or father or teacher or friend) either glances or glares at you, but in those brief seconds, you know what you did, you know what the other person is thinking, and you know you're in trouble. Nothing is said. "That look" is all it takes.
The tortuous silent treatment is an age-old technique for inflicting guilt and pain on others. One moment you're happy, the next moment you're sad or angry.
