Foto Follies
Foto Follies (Steidl) is a delightful look at modern photography through the satirical lens of Duane Michals. For example, there's a series of photographs of Michals in a blonde bobbed wig in various scenarios: applying nail polish or posed with Hans Bellmer-esque mannequins. Titled "Who Is Sydney Sherman?" it's a parody of artist Cindy Sherman. But Michals doesn't stop there. Nan Goldin, Jeff Koons, Ed Ruscha, Sherrie Levine-he ribs them all. The book's subtitle explains it well: How Photography Lost Its Virginity on the Way to the Bank.
