Hungary's beer industry records 5.6% y/y volume growth in 2006

BUDAPEST. JUNE 5. INTERFAX CENTRAL EUROPE - Hungarian beer manufacturers increased their sales volumes by 5.6% on the year in 2006, but the industry's performance continues to be hurt by high taxes as well as consumers' preference for cheap beers, industry officials said on Tuesday.

"The Hungarian beer industry managed to reach a 5.6% increase in sales in 2006, but Hungarians still prefer cheaper, light beers," Imre Sivo, president of the Association of Hungarian Brewers (AHB), said according to online reports.
