Jun. 7--Before his sentencing, I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby expressed to the court his appreciation for the courtesies shown him during the many months of proceedings. The former chief of staff for Vice President Cheney added that he hoped "the court will consider, along with my verdict, my whole life." In other words, Libby remained steadfast, expressing no remorse. He held to the argument of his attorneys who cited the lack of an underlying crime.
Federal Judge Reggie B. Walton didn't take kindly to the stand. He noted the "overwhelming evidence" and sentenced Libby to 30 months in prison for lying to a grand jury and FBI agents who were investigating the leaking ...
