Jun. 7--Workers in cranes worked this morning dismantling the canopy that hung over the Ogden Street toll barrier on the Niagara Thruway, continuing the process of removing the barriers.
Good riddance was the sentiment of four motorists who said they were frequent payers at the barriers before the Thruway Authority stopped collecting the 75-cent toll in October.
"I know I paid it for 10 years, sometimes six or seven days a week," said Chuck Malecki, 65, of Cheektowaga, a retired Tonawanda Engine Plant worker. "It added up."
