A COMPANY LAYING A FIBER-optic cable network in downtown Little Rock says the new technology will take the city off the "dusty dirt road" and onto the information superhighway.
"Hello?" replies Southwestern Bell Telephone Co., noting that it's been building fiber-optic thoroughfares in Little Rock for more than 10 years.
Local Bell officials say they've been too quiet about their work in fiber optics, and they're tired of American Communication Services Inc. grabbing all the attention -- and possibly all the customers.
