As APHA president, I had the privilege in May to participate in a retreat in Bellagio, Italy, that centered on updating the strategic plan for the World Federation of Public Health Associations. Founded in 1967, WFPHA is an organization of more than 70 national and regional public health associations, including APHA, which serves as its organizational home.
Reflecting its varied membership organizations--which have different disciplines and emphases on research, training and practice--WFPHA focuses its mission on a broad public health approach based on a social determinants health model.
