Jun. 8--All Kylie Spurgeon did during the 2007 track and field season was take discus throwing to a new level in Oklahoma. The Owasso senior heaved an overall state record of 173 feet, 2 inches, finished the year ranked No. 2 nationally and launched future competition standards into outer space.
"I feel good about my season and the 173 made my year," said Spurgeon, headed to SMU on scholarship. "I wouldn't do anything differently."
For her dominating performance in the discus, including breaking her own Class 6A state meet record, Spurgeon has been named the Tulsa World All-Metro Girls Athlete of the Year.
