Article: A temperature stable microwave laminate for microstrip patch antenna applications.

Introduction

GPS receivers employ microstrip patch antennas because of their compact size and ease of fabrication. In the past, these antennas have commonly used alumina ([Al.sub.2][O.sub.3]) as the substrate in spite of its large thermal coefficient of relative dielectric constant (TC[[Epsilon].sub.r]). TMM [R], a new temperature stable microwave material, offers the solution to the shifts in the resonant frequency of patch antennas due to temperature variations. With a low TC[[Epsilon].sub.r], shifts in frequency are minimized as confirmed by measured and modeled resonant frequency data presented for various microstrip patch antennas.
