Jun. 10--For nearly two years, an experimental new court program has helped unclog St. Croix County courts, saving taxpayer money in the process, but federal funding for the program will soon run out.
The Diversion Program for first-time offenders has been effective, St. Croix County officials said. And they are hopeful the county will pick up about $55,000 needed to continue the program when federal funding ends Dec. 31.
If the county picks up the program, it will spend a little to save a lot, said St. Croix County District Attorney Eric Johnson.
