Jun. 10--Former Puebloan Gina Bibby remembers going to Bessemer Park every June 19 to celebrate Juneteenth with her family and friends.
"There would be a lot of people in the park and everybody was having fun," said Bibby in a recent telephone interview from her law office in California.
"I don't remember as a young child much about the significance of the day, but I do remember it was a big social event," said the California patent attorney.
Juneteenth, a celebration of the end of slavery, continues to be a major social event for Pueblo's African-American community.
