Politicians from Law and Justice (PiS), the party that leads Poland's family values, right-wing coalition, have attacked plans by US drug major Wyeth to launch on the domestic market its Lybrel (levonorgestrel/ethinyl estradiol tablets) that will end women's periods. The drug is a new, low-dose, contraceptive that can be taken 365 days a year without placebo-phase or pill-free interval.
Wyeth's product is anathema to right-wing Polish politicians, who believe that it threatens "natural" gender differences. "It is not possible to strip women of their femininity," said the PiS' Jolanta Szczypinska, and vice chairwoman of parliament's health committee.
