Bnar Talabani was just eight when, with her mother and baby brother, she fled the tyrannical regime of Saddam Hussein.
She left Iraq not knowing whether her father, a prominent member of the Kurdish rebellion forces who remained in Iraq to continue the battle against the dictator, was alive. And during their flight, her eight month-old brother, died.
That was more than a decade ago. Today Bnar, aged 18, will be honoured with a prestigious Anne Frank award as she prepares to follow her dream of becoming a doctor.
