To attract and retain business in its city, the El Segundo City Council this past summer formed an economic development council to come up with ways to streamline the business-permitting process and encourage business growth. The economic development council is composed of local business professionals, landlords, brokers and property owners.
The resulting business retention program, as developed by the economic development council, includes such financial incentives as rebates on city taxes and lower business licensing costs, said Brian Polkinghorne, an industrial broker at Cushman & Wakefield of California Inc. who is a member of the economic development council.
