Jun. 13--Sweet and messy, s'mores are a staple at many campfires surrounded by kids.
These graham cracker-toasted marshmallow-chocolate sandwiches date at least to 1927 when the Girl Scouts got credit for them by including a recipe in "Tramping and Trailing with the Girl Scouts." Scouts still make them today, but they don't have a monopoly on the gooey goodies.
"We've made them in the past but not for the past couple years because of the fire bans," says Linda Loraine, an environmental educator at Mountain Park Environmental Center in Beulah.
