Albany -- The state Legislature is unlikely to pass any Empire Zone reform bills before it recesses for the summer, according to the chairman of the Assembly economic development committee.
Assemblyman Robin Schimminger, D-Tonawanda, whose committee conducted a 90-minute public hearing on the Empire Zone program Tuesday morning, said he does not support a proposal to temporarily shut down the flawed program.
"I think this program is known around the country and in New York state as a leading, if not the premier, economic development program around," Schimminger said after the hearing.
