1993: Death, needing an excuse, takes Miss Lillian Gish away from us on Saturday night, 27 February, at 7:03 P.M. How fortunate for her to have been asleep in her own bed in the New York apartment she had been occupying since the mid-1940s, first with her mother, and now by herself. For someone whose life had been in the public eye before the dawn of the twentieth century, she has finally been granted a long overdue private moment on her own terms.
