The Goofy Hat Bandit hung up his chapeau Wednesday.
Authorities suspect that William Vance Turner, already a convicted bank robber, went on a 40-site robbery spree that spanned nearly two years. Disguised with a variety of unusual headpieces, the 56-year-old allegedly hit 11 San Fernando Valley depositories before FBI agents grabbed him in a department store parking lot near his Ladera Heights home Wednesday morning.
"He consistently wore a hat, but sometimes they were fishermen's caps, fedoras, even baseball hats," said Laura Eimiller, a spokeswoman with the FBI's Los Angeles office. "Tellers described the hats initially as ...
