Jun. 16--OAKLAND -- Tony La Russa sat Friday afternoon in the cramped office reserved for the visiting team's manager and soon would fill out the St. Louis' Cardinals' lineup card.
Something seemed strange.
It wasn't just that La Russa occupied the A's manager's office -- a few ground-ball hops down the McAfee Coliseum corridor -- for nearly 10 years, from 1986-95.
But I had this strange feeling, as if I'd forgotten to say something during our chat, which initially revolved around the upcoming All-Star Game he'll manage for the National League at AT&T Park.
Then I remembered my manners.
