Steve Krohn learned to fix cars looking over his father's shoulder.
"It's just a matter of watching and learning," Steve said. "It sort of comes to you."
He's taken what he learned in his father's garage to capture a spot on a NASCAR pit crew.
Today, Fathers Day, Steve was working as a member of the Team Red Bull pit crew in Brooklyn, Mich.
Steve, 45, formerly of Lake Geneva, said Thursday was his one chance last week to meet with his dad, Macklyn "Mac" Krohn of Lake Geneva. The team was at the Milwaukee Mile tuning a car.
