After decades of relatively inconclusive findings with various versions of the F scale, Altemeyer (1981) developed his Right-Wing Authoritarianism (RWA) scale as a new measure of psychological authoritarianism. Thus far, findings have indicated that the RWA scale is highly reliable and adequately unidimensional in a variety of contexts (Altemeyer, 1981, 1988; Duckitt, 1993; McFafland, Ageyev, & Alabakina, 1990). It has also predicted a number of important validity criteria of authoritarianism at impressively high levels.
