It's the most significant political development in British politics for a decade, and the man who oversaw it would be forgiven for thinking he would get more of the credit.
But, astonishingly, none of Peter Hain's rivals to be Labour's deputy leader appear to think restoring peace to Northern Ireland counts as a political achievement.
Or more likely they were motivated by a desire to marginalise the Neath MP as they overlooked an accomplishment that has received international recognition.
