NOW SHOWING John Van Benschoten, Pirates
Van Benschoten hit an NCAA-best 31 home runs at Kent State in 2001, but the Pirates made him a first-round pick as a pitcher. He showed plenty of promise early in his career and made five starts for Pittsburgh in 2004. He missed most of the past two seasons with shoulder trouble but got off to a nice start (2.73 ERA in 66 innings at Class AAA) this season. He could stay this time if he pitches well.
