The author is a research fellow at Wolfson College, Oxford University, with relevant experience in Persian antiquities at the British Museum, London, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York. Her book was first published in England as an illustrated companion volume to an exhibition of Persian artifacts at the British Museum and was later released in the American market as a history of the Persian Empire, which the publishers tout as the "definitive work" on the subject.
