Jun. 18--While a typical Maricopa County property taxpayer's annual bill for city government adds up to only around 11 percent of his or her total, the county Treasurer's Office says, the amount for that taxpayer's local school district is 61 percent.
East Valley cities conduct a months-long process leading up to their approving annual budgets in the late spring each year, with several public hearings leading up to a final City Council vote. Scottsdale, for example, held 12 public hearings starting in early February leading up to council approval in early June.
