WASHINGTON -- The oil industry is giving the thumbs down to President Clinton's response to the Commerce Department's findings that U.S. oil imports threaten to impair national security.
Clinton, who had 90 days to respond to the report, released it Thursday, accepting the department's findings and recommendations in full.
"Independent producers are stunned and disappointed by President Clinton's response," an Independent Petroleum Association of America (IPAA) statement said.
