Jun. 20--JERUSALEM -- A shipment of food and medical supplies organized by international aid groups was sent into the Gaza Strip from Israel on Tuesday in a first effort to open a humanitarian corridor to the territory, which has been virtually sealed off since it was taken over by Hamas last week.
But Israel kept Gaza under a tight closure in an effort to choke off all but basic supplies to the area, now controlled by Islamic militants who routed the rival Fatah movement in less than a week of fighting.
