Jun. 21--GOSHEN -- The business community has waded into the heated debate over real estate transfer taxes in Orange County -- and gotten rebuffed by the county Legislature.
Forced by Albany to declare support for a pending tax bill for the second time in a week, county lawmakers convened an emergency session on Tuesday to do just that. Opponents, including County Executive Edward Diana, tried to head them off at the pass.
"Eddie squeezes my hand, saying, 'Don't change your vote. Don't change your vote,' " Legislator Noel Spencer, D-Chester, recalled yesterday.
