The impetus for performing minimally invasive procedures is increasing in all surgical specialties. (1,2) The use of endoscopic techniques may be the fastest evolving technology in the surgical arena, driven by
* technological advancement of endoscopic tools to view the surgical field; (3)
* development of less painful procedures;
* faster surgical recovery times, and
* decreased length of hospitalization and, therefore, potentially reduced health care costs. (1,4,5)
