Gazing across a landscape of almost impossible purity and beauty, I feel like Ansel Adams. Glacier-clad mountains rise around me, forested at their bases, snowy at their summits. There is no visible way for me to have gotten here, the helicopter that dropped our band of hikers off deep in western Canada's Columbia Mountain range having whup-whupped away. It'll be back to fetch our party in time for us to savor the sunset from the porch of our lodge, however.
