KINGSTOWN, N.C. _ From helping people one-on-one to helping found a town, Chinnetta Brooks has wasted no time making her mark on her community.
Brooks, 43, is in motion constantly, driving elderly residents to the hospital, cataloging substandard housing and making plans for six-year-old Kingstown, named for Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The town is about 40 miles west of Charlotte.
Brooks' efforts have earned her recognition, from the governor on down to state and local officials and helping agencies. She's received more than a dozen honors and awards based on her service in Kingstown, Cleveland County and North Carolina.
