Jun. 22--BRUNSWICK, Md. -- Bats have colonized the attic of the Brunswick Railroad Museum, forcing museum trustees to look for ways to move the colony before installing an air conditioning system.
Tom Simpson, a museum volunteer, told the Brunswick City Council this week that he discovered at least 30 bats when he was checking out the attic to get it ready for the air conditioner.
"It's illegal to exterminate them," Simpson said. "We're struggling to find a humane method of control."
Bats are a protected species in Maryland.
