Mineral collecting in Copenhagen (Denmark's only major city) dates back to Ole Worm (1588-1654), a Danish physician, archeologist, and Professor of Natural Philosophy and Medicine at the University of Copenhagen. He began collecting natural history specimens (including minerals) in 1620, and devoted the first four chapters of his published catalog (Museum Wormianum, 1655) to the minerals in his collection.
