Jun. 22--WILLIAMSBURG -- A decision to make an English professor chairperson of the philosophy department at the College of William and Mary has led to another dispute that is putting more pressure on the university's Board of Visitors.

Philosophy department chairman Noah Lemos was notified last month that he'll be replaced July 1 by Terry Meyers.

Meyers is an English professor who began working at the university in 1970 and is a former associate dean of the arts and sciences faculty. But Meyers' selection as the department's new chairman has led to speculation that the move was politically motivated.
