I am in a quandary. On the one hand, I am committed to active parental involvement in education. In fact, parent involvement was the topic of my dissertation at the beginning of my professional career. Like many other researchers, I discovered that young children whose parents participated in an education program performed significantly better on a set of achievement measures than did children whose parents did not participate. Today, the studies that support a similar conclusion would fill volumes.
