Jun. 23--CARYVILLE -- It was a seemingly innocuous mailing, a little strange, though, because of its Canadian postmark.

And when David Stull opened the envelope sent to his home address on Cedar Lane in Caryville, the letter inside seemed too good to be true. Stull and his wife, Frances, quickly realized it was.

It stated that they had won $75,400 in an international sweepstakes, but Stull was wary of inconsistencies and the amateur production of the letter. Plus, he had not entered an international sweepstakes.

"It sounded good, but it looked too fishy," Frances Stull said.
