The plantar fascia is a vital structure for maintaining the plantar arch of the foot. Much has been written concerning the condition of plantar fasciitis in athletes. Rupture of the plantar fascia can occur spontaneously. This condition is well know to athletes and has been reported in runners, and tennis player, but has not been described in dancers. (1)
Acute rupture of the plantar fascia was first described by Leach and colleagues. (2) The symptoms often include prodromal soreness of plantar fasciitis.
