Reps. English and Green reintroduce specimen collection fee legislation.(government news)(Phil English and Gene Green)(Brief article)

Congressmen Phil English (R-PA) and Gene Green (DTX) have reintroduced a bill to provide an inflation update to the Medicare specimen collection fee. The so-called "draw fee" has been frozen at $3.00 since its inception in 1984. It has never been adjusted even for inflation, let alone the significant increases in the cost of performing phlebotomy over the past 23 years.

This year's bill, H.R. 1501, would update the draw fee to $6.07 in 2008, and thereafter would adjust the fee by the annual percentage increase or decrease in the Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers (United States city average).
