"Real" education is often equated with sitting and reflecting, but the ideas of Thomas D. Wood remind us that the learning we promote and the healthy lifestyles to which this learning leads happen where one often cannot find a single chair.
As far as I know, Thomas D. Wood never spoke or wrote a word about chairs and education--at least not directly. But in a way, his "new physical education" had a great deal to say about chairs and the people who by choice, accident, or necessity spend a great deal of time in them. Though Wood formulated his ideas on education nearly 100 years ago, they are still relevant today. We still have chairs, we still have people who sit in ...
