Jun. 25--SMITHFIELD -- It wasn't until Mike White was about to tie a maroon, orange and black ribbon on the dogwood tree planted in his daughter's memory that he almost broke into tears.
About 75 people -- mostly friends, family and acquaintances of slain Virginia Tech student Nicole White -- attended a memorial tree-planting ceremony Sunday in Smithfield's Riverview Park Memorial Garden.
Nicole White, 20, was among the 32 people killed in the April 16 massacre at Virginia Tech. White, a junior and international studies major, was slain in Norris Hall.
